Happy Hens - an update

This is a very happy post because our chickens are looking so much better!
They're barely recognizable from the girls i left at Easter!

Elsa

Hetty

Nancy

Their plumage is brilliant now. There was a slight hiccough
a few weeks back because they got a little agoraphobic. They've gone from being
"cooped up" to having all the space a chicken could dream of.
We changed the set up so instead if the whole garden the have a smaller space and
can going inside their house!

Fixing the agoraphobia meant they stopped plucking out their feathers.
Plan B was to buy them chicken waistcoats to protect their feathers. I will admit
I'm slightly sad we couldn't do plan B...

Hetty is looking the best right now her plumage is beautiful
the others have a little more growing to do.

Elsa still has some feather growing to do!

Mum describes Nancy's feathers as frilly knickers.

Some more Berlin

On our last night was spent eating Burritos
in a gorgeous vegetarian restaurant and then hopping next door to
a very COOL jazz club.
Berlin clubbing STARTS at 4 and goes on until 11 in the morning
so when we arrived at 11 and left at 2.30 Emma had to explain
that this was in fact an early night.

The Veggie place and the Jazz place were in an old
industrial estate. It hasn't been changed much but simply
decorated!
This makes for a beautiful layout that remains chilled out.

One of the wonderful things about Berlin
is there is no pressure to look a certain way.
Sometimes when I'm out in Leeds I sometimes feel
a bit undressed if I've not devoted my whole day to getting ready.
Don't get me wrong - that is FUN to do!
But I also loved being able to wear sensible shoes and a cardi!

The light fittings in the Jazz place were taps!

Berlin still has photo booths that take 4 separate photos!
I obviously love this because :
1. It's got a vintage vibe (that's all I need to be sold but it goes on)
2. You get to mess around 4 times (12 for us because we all wanted our own strip)
3. Black and white photos and beautiful.

Top centre: my BIG face took up too much room.

Vintage suitcases

We had to tear ourselves away from these.
There was a lot of questioning whether we could replace our carry on
luggage.
My favourite one is the green one... or the black...
or the red and white stripes... who can decide!

Beautiful Berlin

This week May and I have been to Berlin to visit
Emma whose been living there since September.

Almost immediately I realised that everything and everyone in Berlin
is really really cool.
Vintage shops, Art galleries in squats, creativity is overflowing
from the place.
Berliners have a really laid back style with baggy jeans and fabulous hair.
Lots of dreadlocks, lots of tattoos aaah I just can't describe how COOL
Berlin is....So I'll just show you my photos!

Here is May! This was in a COOL cafe with such good cake and smoothies.

There are posters and graffiti EVERYWHERE
and I would say 90% of it is really high quality.

But it's hard to take photos of really big pieces like these.

More to come

Musings on Stick on Nails Varnish

I've seen these stick on nail varnishes everywhere lately.
The designs you can get are awesome and way beyond what I could achieve
with traditional nail varnish.

I was a Lindy camp this weekend so the timing for polka dot nails was perfect. I got loads of compliments but I remain unconvinced by them...

Far off they look really fab but under closer inspection, they don't sit
completely flat against the nail. The packet says they last up to ten day but
they started to peel quickly.

Essentially, it feels a bit like wearing plasters on your nails.
I don't think they're very good for your nails either...
HOWEVER
I still love them :)
If there's a big event you're going to I would recommend them!
I think they'd also work better if you cut them up and used strips to add accents to your nails.

They're not practical. But practical is overrated sometimes.

EGGS

Very happy hens aren't the only reward we get from
the girls! We also get tasty eggs and the freshest you can get.
The happier they get the more egg we get!
It's a win win situation.

A Trip to Bradford

So to continue our plan make the most of the North whilst we're up there, me and Jamie
took ourselves to Bradford for the day. We went to the Cathedral and the National Media Museum.
The museum has the most amazing camera display with example of cameras from the invention
of cameras!

The best bit was a visit to Bombay Stores. It's a HUGE department store that sells
the most beautiful sari fabrics. I could have spent all day there!
I bought some gorgeous (and cheap) fabric for myself and for
Sarah's birthday - I'm going to make a swing skirt for her this weekend!
